Deputy Dinorah Figuera
President of the National Assembly of Venezuela elected in 2015, she heads its delegation in the talks with the Interim Government. She leads the Parliament’s political and institutional work and heads its dialogue with the United States and other international partners to advance the re-institutionalization, reconstruction and democratic transition of Venezuela.
Since taking office as president in January 2023, she has led the policy of protecting and defending Venezuela’s public assets abroad. This work was carried out within the framework of the United States’ recognition of the AN2015 as Venezuela’s last legitimate institution, and included efforts to preserve assets, legal defense and accountability. She took on these responsibilities from exile in Spain, after being the target of political persecution for her public and parliamentary activity, and after denouncing the killing, at the hands of the Venezuelan State, of her close friend and fellow party member, Caracas city councilor Fernando Albán.
She is a medical doctor and surgeon who graduated from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), with a specialization in Epidemiology. Her career combines training in public health, legislative experience and sustained work in defense of human rights and democratic freedoms.
She served as a councilor in the Libertador municipality and on the Metropolitan Council of Caracas, and was elected to the National Assembly representing the Capital District and the state of Aragua. She began her political activity in the UCV student movement and has held responsibilities in the National Leadership of Primero Justicia.
