Dinorah Figuera reaffirms commitment to democracyand justice in Venezuela after meeting with Marco Rubio

WASHINGTON, D.C., USA, October 9, 2026.– The President of the 2015 National Assembly of Venezuela, Dinorah Figuera, held a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in which
they discussed the roadmap for restoring democracy, rebuilding the country’s institutions and reviving the economy.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Figuera thanked the United States government for its support of Venezuela’s democratic forces and emphasized that “since January 3, this path of hope has opened up for Venezuela.”

The lawmaker stressed that the main commitment is to rebuild independent branches of government, pointing directly to the need to reform and re-institutionalize the Supreme Court of
Justice (TSJ) and the National Electoral Council (CNE).

“We are committed to re-institutionalizing the branches of government in order to bring the country into a process of political and civil guarantees, and to create space for reunion and reconciliation,” Figuera said, adding that there will be determined work on the process of political and civil guarantees and on creating space for reunion and reconciliation.

While acknowledging the complexity of the current situation, she was optimistic: “Is it an easy process? No, it is not, but it is a possible one. Accordingly, we believe that fulfilling this roadmap,
which we have drawn up with the support of the United States, will undoubtedly lead our country to progress.”

The President of the 2015 National Assembly also highlighted the positive impact that the recovery of the national economy, driven by the energy and hydrocarbons sector, will have.

“I told Secretary Rubio and the officials that we are also very pleased to see progress through oil investment. Re-institutionalization and the country’s economic progress will be two fundamental pillars for building institutions and democracy,” she stated.

Lastly, Figuera reaffirmed her faith in the country’s recovery: “We are raising the banners of faith, hope and justice, because without a doubt we are on our way to being reunited with our homeland.”
